What Are Van Capsules?
Van capsules (sometimes used interchangeably with van flares or bump outs) are molded extensions typically added to the rear or sides of a van to create additional living or storage space. Unlike traditional flares, capsules often provide a more spacious, enclosed area—ideal for a bed platform, gear compartment, or even a mini office setup.
Van capsules are especially useful for those building out long-term travel vans or full-time vanlife rigs where every inch of space matters. They are available for models like the Sprinter, Transit, and Promaster, and some come pre-insulated or with integrated lighting options.
