When you use the toilet, the waste is flushed into the cassette, which holds the waste until you’re ready to empty it. The tank can be detached from the toilet base and manually transported to a dump station for easy disposal. Some cassette toilets have a fresh water tank for flushing, while others rely on the vehicle’s main water system.

How to Empty a Cassette Toilet

Emptying a cassette toilet is straightforward. Follow these steps:

Locate the Waste Tank: Access the cassette compartment from outside your camper van or RV. Open the hatch and slide out the waste tank.
Transport the Cassette: Carry the waste tank to a designated dump station. Many tanks have wheels and a handle for easy transport.
Empty the Waste: Remove the spout cap, position the spout over the dump station, and slowly pour out the waste. Press the air vent button to allow for smoother flow.
Rinse the Cassette: Rinse the tank thoroughly with clean water to remove any remaining waste. You can use a hose at the dump station for this step.
Add Chemicals: Once cleaned, add a toilet chemical or deodorizer to the cassette before sliding it back into its compartment.
